All about Moringa and its benefits

Moringa oleifera, often simply called moringa, is the most cultivated species of the monotypic family Moringaceae. Native to India and Sri Lanka, it is now acclimatized in almost all tropical regions: this small, fast-growing, drought-resistant melliferous tree can measure up to 10 metres. (Sources : wikipédia)


Also called "Miracle Tree" because of its richness in nutrients, Moringa is a superfood and its health benefits are well documented and scientifically proven. In Madagascar, Moringa is used to fight child malnutrition.


Moringa brings energy and vitality, it is rich in minerals, acts as a powerful oxidant and improves sleep. It also helps to fight against cardiovascular diseases. On the skin, Moringa moisturizes and fights against skin aging.

In Madagascar, the leaves are eaten as breds to make romazava, or salads.


Young pods can be eaten raw with vinaigrette. The smallest pods are cooked with meat like beans or asparagus.


The seeds from the green pod can replace the peas and the dried seeds are eaten roasted like peanuts.


Impressive nutritional qualities


The Moringa pod contains:

  • 2x as much protein as milk,

  • 3x more potassium than bananas,

  • 4x more vitamin A than carrots,

  • 7x more vitamin C than oranges

In addition, it is easy to digest, its fat content is more than 30%


100g of fresh leaves or 50g of fruit provide about half of the daily calcium, iron and protein requirements. They also provide a third of the daily requirement of potassium and essential amino acids for children aged 1 to 3 years.

Moringa and its benefits : medicinal properties


Studies and research have shown that Moringa can cure flu, cough, fevers, rheumatism or asthma. To do this, it can be used as a powder, poultice or herbal tea.


Applying ointment made from powder mixed with beeswax helps to heal sores and abscesses.


Used in water treatment


Crushed moringa seeds can replace alumina sulphate or other flocculating products in water treatment.



Good oil extraction performance


The seeds have a good yield at oil extraction, between 22 and 38% clear, sweet and odorless oil that the cosmetic industry uses a lot.


Some studies have also shown that this oil could be used as a biofuel for diesel engines.
